Fashion in spring 2010 will be influenced primarily by the economy.  The one thing consumers will be hearing most often, through different types of media, can be summed up in two simple words: affordable luxury. This year at fashion week, they had to cut down on the number of catwalks, because of economic struggles.  Many famous designers opted to have their own smaller shows, rather than participate in fashion week, because it is less expensive.  In 2010, we will be seeing a more natural look as a result of fashion designers struggling financially.

One popular look will be the 1970’s Bohemian style, with a lot of earth tones, over-sized jewelry, and colorful, flowing scarves.  Expect to also see floral patterns in pale pinks and mauves. My prediction is that the little cotton dresses with floral patterns, that were once popular in the 1990’s grunge era will be popular in the spring, except now instead of army boots or Mary Jane’s,  we’ll be wearing thigh-high boots, ankle boots, or strappy heels.  One other trend will be an urban style.  This line will be neon colors, graffiti prints, and ripped jeans.

The most sought-after color of the season will be green, then closely following are mauves and neutrals. There will be a lot of pastel colors, as well as some colors that are bordering on neon in terms of brightness. Patterns will be floral, jungle, graffiti, Bohemian, African-inspired, and we will also see South American influences. Materials will be more Earthy, such as cottons and linens.  Braids will be a popular style concerning hair, as well as scarves wrapped around the hair.  Another trendy hairstyle will be a short, messy style colored blond.

That’s all for my fashion forecast for the spring of 2010.  The most popular looks will be a sign of the times and will take us back to our roots.  I’m very excited to see the fashions go from the designer’s sketch pad, to the runway, then finally, into our hands.
